If we expect our horses to perform like athletes, we have to feed them like athletes. We cannot hamper their metabolism with impurities that can poison their enzyme systems all the way to the cellular level.

Vita Royal uses only water soluble forms of Vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are better absorbed and faster metabolizing than common fat soluble forms. The body does not build up toxicity with the water soluble forms as readily, enabling higher doses to be used safely in therapeutics.

Our mineral supplement forms are USP macrominerals and amino acid chelated trace minerals. This means that they are minerals "predigested" and bound to amino acids and proteins to enhance absorption and utilization up to 300% over common, inorganic forms. Our amino acid chelated minerals are buffered, to both protect their integrity in the digestive tract and to protect the delicate pH balance of the digestive tract.

Common, inorganic forms of minerals, such as sulfates and phosphates, can alter the acid/alkaline balance of the digestive tract radically. They can be up to four times more toxic than our superior amino acid chelates. Phosphates and sulfates, commonly used in other supplements are known to be acid causing, promoting additional acidity in an already acid compromised digestive system. Recently, many people have discovered the benefits of a good quality water filtration system for people and animals. We recommend this one because it is easy to install and quite affordable.

Remember to also only use only white medical grade hoses, available from hardware stores servicing RV owners, as the common garden hoses do contaminate the water with lead and other plastic xenoestrogens known to interfere with thyroid biochemistry in the body.

The recomended optimal system consists of 2 filter housing units: one containing a carbon filter, and the other, a sediment filter. This system is ideal for applications ranging from your own home to livestock and even a rather large barn. - more info -

If possible, have your barn water run through a water softener which will remove a lot of contaminants including iron and calcium. Best to use potassium salt instead of common sodium salt in your water softener. This may take a bit of plumbing in your house but is well worth it for the contaminants it removes.

It has been theorized that horses may develop stomach ulcers in response to stress from training, racing, showing or confinement. Years ago fifty-two percent of 100 apparently clinically normal horses had stomach ulcers when randomly examined endoscopically. This may indicate a higher incidence of ulcers than previously realized. Ulcers may cause decreased appetite, weight loss, and signs of colic, resulting in poor performance. Antacids have been used in the treatment of stomach ulcers both in the horse and humans. Studies indicate that in 1999 this percentage had increased dramatically to over 90% of horses in training.
